Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal data Outboard & Marine Pte Ltd collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what you can ask us to do about it. It covers both this website and the servicing and repair work we carry out at our workshop.
We handle personal data in accordance with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (the PDPA).
What we collect, and when
When you browse this website
Our web server records the ordinary technical information every website receives: your IP address, the pages you visited, the time of the visit, and the browser and device you used.
This site uses Google Tag Manager, which may set cookies used to measure how the site is used. It also loads fonts from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address when a page loads. Both are provided by Google.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, though some parts may not behave as intended.
When you send an enquiry
Our enquiry and contact forms ask for your name, email address, telephone number, subject and message. If you use the enquiry cart, we also receive the list of products you added to it, so that we can quote for the right machines.
We use this only to answer you and to follow up on the enquiry.
If you create an account
You can create an account on this site. If you do, we hold the username, email address and password you set, along with any name, address and contact details you enter. Passwords are stored in encrypted form and cannot be read by us.
When you buy something from this site
When you place an order we collect the name, email address and telephone number you give, your billing and delivery addresses, and the items you ordered. We keep the order itself as a business record.
When you bring equipment in for servicing or repair
This is the largest part of what we hold, and it is collected at the counter rather than on this website. When you leave equipment with us we record:
- your name and, where relevant, your company
- your contact telephone number, and a WhatsApp number if you give one
- the equipment itself — make, model and serial number
- what you told us was wrong with it, and any instructions you gave us
- your signature, which you sign on a handheld device to confirm the equipment we received and the terms of service
We need this to identify your machine, to do the work, to contact you about it, and to keep a record of what was agreed. Your signature is kept with the service slip it belongs to, because it is what makes that record meaningful.
If you apply for a job
Job applications reach us by email. We use what you send — your CV and anything in your message — only to consider your application. If your application is unsuccessful, we delete it within six months.
Sending your service slip on WhatsApp
If you give us a WhatsApp number when you leave equipment with us, we may send you a copy of your signed service slip on WhatsApp, as a PDF attachment.
These messages are sent through the WhatsApp Business Platform, operated by Meta Platforms, Inc. To send one, we pass Meta your WhatsApp number and the service slip document. Meta handles that data under its own terms and privacy policy.
Who we share your data with
We do not sell personal data, and we do not pass it to anyone for their own marketing.
We share it only where it is needed to do the work:
- Stripe — to take payment for orders placed on this site, and to handle refunds and chargebacks if they arise.
- Meta Platforms — to send your service slip on WhatsApp, as described above.
- Google — our business uses Google services to store documents and to run this website's analytics.
- Our website host and IT suppliers — who necessarily handle the data stored on the systems they run for us.
- Manufacturers and distributors — where a repair is a warranty claim, we pass on what the claim requires, which is usually the machine's serial number, the fault and the owner's name.
- Where the law requires it — for example a lawful request from a public agency.
Data held outside Singapore
Stripe, Meta and Google store data on servers outside Singapore. Where we transfer personal data overseas, we take reasonable steps to satisfy ourselves that it will be protected to a standard comparable to the PDPA, as the Act requires.
How long we keep it
We keep service and repair records, including signed service slips, for seven years. This matches the period for which Singapore's Income Tax Act requires business records to be kept, and our service history is tied to our invoices. After that they are disposed of securely.
Enquiries that do not become jobs are kept only as long as they are useful for following up, and then deleted.
Keeping it secure
We take reasonable steps to protect personal data against loss and against access by people who have no business seeing it. Our systems are limited to staff who need them for their work, are protected by individual accounts, and are backed up.
No system is perfectly secure, and we do not pretend otherwise. If a breach occurs that is likely to cause you significant harm, we will notify you and the Personal Data Protection Commission as the PDPA requires.
Your rights
Under the PDPA you may:
- ✓Ask what we hold about you, and how it has been used or disclosed in the past year.
- ✓Ask us to correct it if it is wrong or out of date.
- ✓Withdraw your consent to us using it for a particular purpose — for example, to stop us messaging you on WhatsApp.
Write to our Data Protection Officer using the details below. We will respond as soon as we reasonably can.
Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer do something for you. If you withdraw consent to hold your contact details, for instance, we cannot tell you when your machine is ready.
